  • Tropicana Opens Swanky New Trago Lounge
Tropicana has opened its new Trago Lounge, and we had to swing by for cocktails, video poker, a live DJ and mostly that first thing. “Trago,” of course, is the first person singular present indicative of “trazer” in Spanish. As if that weren’t obvious. cl_imgMon, 18 Mar 2019, 11:50 pm PDT
  • Confirmed: Total Rewards Will Become Caesars Rewards
Caesars Entertainment has been kind enough to confirm a story we first broke back in October 2018: The company’s loyalty club, Total Rewards, will be rebranded as Caesars Rewards. We are not a psychic, we just play one on the Interwebs. The switch from Total Rewards to Caesars Rewards will take place Feb. 1, 2019. Here’s a look at the new Caesars Rewards cards. • Player Hits Rare Sequential Royal Flush for $217,000 Jackpot
Lots of video poker players dream of hitting a royal flush. Some of us have even played on and off for, oh, 20 years and have never hit one. Not bitter. At all. One lucky video poker player at Red Rock Resort not only hit a royal, they hit a rare sequential royal flush. The player’s $5 bet reaped an incredible $217,591.55 jackpot. And the Internet went wild. • Sigma Derby is Done at MGM Grand
A popular, old-timey horse racing slot machine called Sigma Derby has finally been put down for good at MGM Grand. Sigma Derby has a passionate following, and until recently, there were just two in Las Vegas (and possibly the country). And then there was one. An MGM Grand rep confirmed to us Sigma Derby won’t be back. The company said it has “done everything possible to prolong its active lifespan but that’s simply no longer possible.” Tue, 13 Nov 2018, 01:17 am PST
  • Hard Rock Rolls Out Painless Drink Voucher System
The first time we ever saw a voucher system for free drinks on a video poker machine, we had a minor meltdown. That was at Mirage, back in 2015. Then Caesars Entertainment made a splash when it rolled out drink monitoring to all its casino bars. We still had sort of a meltdown, but we learned some deep breathing exercises and started asking questions. Let’s just say we’ve done a 180 since 2015, largely due to understanding more about why drink monitoring systems are necessary and how, surprising...

  • Total Rewards Reportedly Will Rebrand to Caesars Rewards
In what would be a big shake-up in the casino loyalty club realm, we’re hearing Caesars Entertainment will rebrand its popular Total Rewards program to Caesars Rewards in early 2019. There’s been no official announcement of the Caesars Rewards roll-out, but when has that ever stopped us from sharing news? cl_imgThu, 11 Oct 2018, 11:17 pm PDT

Golden Gate is back in action again with some dramatic changes and a new casino expansion. We took a peek behind-the-scenes at what were, until recently, walled off areas of Golden Gate’s casino floor. The casino’s floor is expanding into the space previously occupied by Du-Par’s restaurant. cl_imgThu, 28 Jun 2018, 10:49 pm PDT
  • Take a Walk Along a Las Vegas Casino Surveillance Catwalk
It’s rare when you see something you’ve never seen before, but gird your loins, you’re about to. A few years back, before Bill’s Gamblin’ Hall (originally Barbary Coast) was gutted to become the Cromwell, we got to stroll the casino’s old-school, labyrinthine catwalk. cl_imgWed, 6 Jun 2018, 01:41 am PDT

I’m pretty certain that there are a couple of experiences common to a majority of today’s poker fans. One is having an appreciation for the seminal poker movie, Rounders. Another, surely, is having watched numerous episodes of the old High Stakes Poker and Poker After Dark televised poker shows. We all know the players involved, but to the best of my knowledge, we’ve never heard about those games from the perspective of people who had a front row seat: the dealers. Mary Gregorich was one of a fe...

The world of online gambling in general and online poker specifically is in a state of constant flux. • Did You Spit in My Drink?
On the Saturday before Christmas, I played a tournament at Venetian.  They were having their New Years Extravaganza, and that weekend they were featuring a two-starting flight $340 buy-in with a $100K guarantee. The levels were 40-minutes and the starting stack was 25K so it was a pretty good value.  The Saturday I played was the second starting flight and those who made it thru either day 1 would return on Sunday. Sadly, I wasn't one of those returning on Sunday. I was at a really tough table,...

Saturday I was back in Ventura for a another 2/3 session.  It turned out to be a good session—I won some money, won a hand with pocket Kings and even got a weird story out of those Kings.Early on, probably the first time I was the big blind, I got pocket Aces.  There was a raise to $10 and a call, so when it got to me, I made it $40.  The original raiser folded, but the guy who called the $10 went all-in.  Cool. When I had just gotten to the table, this guy had shoved a small stack preflop, and w...

This is about my most recent session in Ventura.  Before I headed out there this particular Saturday, I had already decided that I was going to play 2/3, not 1/2 as I have been playing lately.  Originally, I started playing 1/2 because I noticed how poor the play was at that game.  The players were just so bad I thought it would be like taking candy from a baby.  And truth is, I did have some success at that game when I started. But I couldn't build on that success and then it all kind of went s...

I played a big $250 online MTT that racked up over 400 runners... Never had I folded so many hands in my life. • Post for the sake of post
I changes leagues this year. Both leagues now have a main event first prize. One league is 45 players (I finished top 10) and the other is a new league to me with 27 or so players. The smaller league started in August, and I finished 6th. Not as good as it sounds as I was card dead for an entire MTT but hit a 1 outer for a Straight Flush halfway through the night. Still, good to have the score. I like the larger field of 5 tables as I always feel like in a 3 table there are never enough chips in...

There are now 9 to the money and he raises from the cutoff to 2.4x BB. I am the button and have AKs... The two blinds on my left are very active, especially the small blind. Just like everyone else in the poker world, I am absorbing two big trends. The Button Ante and GTO play. On the Button Ante: I think this is a LIVE ONLY necessity, to insure more hands per level. If that is the results of this, the extra nuances are well worth it. Do I play differently because of it? I think I am more willing to attach weak BBB defender in middle levels of an MTT. We quickly found our way to what seemed to be the highest point: the courthouse. From the front of the building, there's a spectacular view down the main drag, with mountains in the background, as seen below. • Losing Streak
A lot of you know me already but here is another look into the bad mentality that makes it hard for me to succeed in poker: I am on a losing streak. What do I mean by a losing streak? I am only up 44$ this week. I have lost like 2-3 SNGs in a row. My stats are 4-5 since I started taking notes. Big fucking losing streak right? Hell I even cashed in 88th place in a 780 person MTT. It was a eleven center for 1.10 but still..Fuck me if I have not gotten lucky too.. I mean first hand of my last first...

  • The Good Things In Life
The nice thing about playing poker online besides not having to drive 45 minutes to a casino... You can just sit there, doing an Al Bundy with your hand down your pants.. maybe picking your nose a few times.. and it's all good.. Nobody even looks twice at ya.The Global Poker cashout went perfectly. I applied on Friday night I think.. so I did not expect a response until Monday, on Monday they said they wanted a photo of my license not a scan.. so I sent that.. and by Tuesday the funds were sitti...

  • Well that is a Weight off the Shoulders
Bought in and pending my first cash out at Global Poker. Bought in for $100 and in my first week doubled up to $200 and cashing out $50. So far the cash out process is somewhat easy. It is kind of hard to find as you have to click buy coins.. then there is a cashout tab. Once you are verified via license and a bill from your address you get your cash back in PayPal. A fee is attached to payout apparently so will have to watch that. Will keep you informed as to how well this works. We all know tha...

  • Going Well
The upswing continues. I am hoping to be up a hundred by the end of the week and then cash out 50, and do it again to $300. I think making $100 a week would be pretty cool. I am not sure it's not possible at $6.60 SNGs. I am also not sure it is.. and I am usually hesitant to make these goals because if I start moving the other direction I get chasey. One other thing I am noticing. I had great success at the non-turbo games playing hard and just trying to make 3rd every game. I go on the site this...

  • The Re-Emergence of Patrik Antonius
Patrik Antonius is widely regarded as being one of the top poker players in the world, though his live tournament results never really told that story. The reason? Antonius stayed away from the live tournament grind for the most part, preferably to stick to online and live cash games. Over the past couple of months, however, things have changed, as we have suddenly seen much more of Antoni...
